The Wonderful Broccoli

Many people don’t care about this wonderful vegetable, broccoli.

Broccoli is a vegetable with a high content of Vitamin C, D and beta-carotene. It contains indole-3, which is an important anti-cancer agent. Beta-carotenes are powerful antioxidants, and therefore the consumption of broccoli reduces the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Broccoli is a very good vegetable that many people do not like, as for example children. Knowing the importance that it represents for good health, we should all make an effort to try to consume this food. With wit, we can convince our children to consume it too.

I have a friend that, every Monday, gives her son a green soup from “planet Mars”. The child eats the soup enthusiastically, and tells his friends that he has eaten one special super soup and that will help one to conquer space.  The child’s conclusion is true; scientific research has in fact shown that broccoli can protect from heart and bone diseases. Broccoli is delicious and it is very beneficial. A study done by the prestigious University of Illinois reports that a portion of this plant contains:

  • Calories-under: 23 calories
  • Dietary fiber: 2.4 grams
  • Carbohydrates: 4.3 milligrams
  • Vitamin C 49 milligrams
  • Folic Acid: 53.3 milligrams
  • Iron: 0.9 mg
  • Beta carotenes

Let’s eat broccoli and have a good appetite!
